I agree with her in that cyberspace is a new frontier of learning that cannot single handedly be controlled by the U. S. government. Our society needs to implement our own powers of individual responsibility in this wonderful, enlightening, yet sometimes detrimental intellectual frontier. Dyson compares how cyberspace is virtually the same as real estate. She states that â€Å" you could think of cyberspace as a giant and unbounded world of virtual real estate†(420). The key words in her observation are the words that Americans have a deep love for in their genes and psyche: an unbounded world. Thats what cyberspace is. It is even bigger than that; it is an unbounded new frontier! And we can explore this unbounded new frontier from any comfort that suits us. Cyberspace is like any really great book one can go any where he or she wants to go, be whomever he or she wants to be, learn whatever he or she cares to learn about, and be fascinated beyond ones limits of imagination, all from the comfort of an old, beloved, beat-up, Lazy Boy recliner! One can explore every interest, curiosity, desire to learn about unknown people, places, things, with the touch of his or her fingers. However, with all new frontiers there are dangers and drawbacks. Referencing Dysons analogy to cyberspace and real estate, some places, such as parks, are made for everyones enjoyment. Some real estate areas are made for home residences. Some for business enterprises that everyone can enjoy. And then there are some real estate areas that are not appropriate for children. Cyberspace is no different in this way than real estate , books, pictures, magazines, or people and the things they say and do. Some web-sites are set up for children and are wonderful educational tools to help them expand their minds, imaginations, hearts and souls. Some web-sites help educate people and improve their lives in ways that they could never afford the money or the travel time otherwise. Some web-sites allow us to learn ways that we can help others through donated dollars, kind words, material possessions, etc. Then there are places in cyberspace that represent the darker side of humanity just as in the places, books, people, deeds, in the terrestrial world. This dark side of humanity is what we all want to protect our children from. But how? The use of censorship in the United States of America is unconstitutional and the government censoring of cyberspace should never happen. Cyberspace is a place where a person has the freedom to choose where they want to go and what information they want to access. In America, it is unconstitutional to ban books because of offensive content. Our citizens will just choose not to read the book. However there are those who want to censor cyberspace because of some of the offensive sites. There have been many reform bills proposed by lawmakers in the U. S. Senate and House that have tried to protect children from cyberspace. Cyberspace is a new frontier for every being on our earth. Some countries will censor the cyber world just as they censor their own citizens and their choices. However, people in America do not tolerate censorship. They understand the concept of personal responsibility. Where a person chooses to go in cyberspace is his/her own destination. Ultimately in all aspects of life, we are free to choose our destinations; with the books we choose to read, the lessons we choose to grasp, and the cyber sites we choose to visit. Dyson states that â€Å"Cyberspace isnt a frontier where wicked people can grab unsuspecting children, nor is it a giant television system that can beam offensive messages at unwilling viewers†(420). We must protect cyberspace from censorship just as fervently as we protect free speech. Cyberspace will ultimately rule itself just as any free enterprise system must do in order to be successful. Some sites offer free information that is available to anyone. If the information is interesting to an individual and is valid, then the site will probably be successful and attract many viewers. However, if a site is full of offensive material that is inappropriate to children, it is up to the server to restrict the viewers. There are moderators in the cyberspace world who monitor web-sites, as well as the information presented. Cyber communities exist just as actual communities do. There are communities of family and children oriented web-sites, of young singles oriented web-sites, and there are communities of porn oriented web-sites. The success of each site depends on how it conducts itself: self-rule. â€Å"In the near future, explorers in cyberspace will need to get better at defining and identifying their communities. They will need to put in place-and accept-their own local government, just as the owners of expensive real estate often prefer to have their own security guards rather than call in the police†(422). In conclusion, I agree with Dyson that cyberspace must be controlled, but not by government. Ultimately parents, cyberspace servers, sites, communities, and individuals must regulate this new universe of information. Just as with any successful business in our free enterprise system, supply and demand will dictate whether a cyber site will be a success. Individuals must have total freedom in cyberspace to choose where they want to go and with that freedom comes personal responsibility. Americans value freedom; it is the value that built our great country.

America is full of opinions and various ideas, but the government itself is steady. The leaders and key decision makers on the other hand are not. These people, who are entrusted with the responsibility of running the government, often use this power to thrust their personal opinions into the laws the citizens must abide by. Thus their choices bring turmoil within the country. A common difference among Americans is people’s spiritual and heavenly belief. Some call it religion and others call it a lifestyle. The passion people feel for each of their personal experiences and the integral part it plays in people’s lives makes it an complicated to fix. This fissure between religion and gove rnment causes a conflict in society, it halts progress, causes unnecessary deaths and it creates a gaping crevasse that splits the United States of America at its very heart. Christianity, Muslim, Islam, Atheism, and many other religious beliefs are practiced in the United States of America. Each of these religions has its own doctrines that guide its followers, producing disagreements on many important issues. For one, the â€Å"War on Terror† is a major source of conflict. It a massive clash between Iraq’s Muslim nation and America’s Christian nation. Broadband Methods

There are several broadband methods that can be used to provide high speed internet access at home. The selection of the method is determined by the requirements, the availability of the hardware which is determined by the location of the user and the installation cost. Some of the most common methods include digital subscribers line (DSL), cable internet and satellite internet among others (Lemke, 2001). Due to its availability and speed relative to other options, I would prefer satellite internet for home use. Digital subscriber line is the most common home internet access method and provides network over the telephone lines.The main advantages of DSL that the subscriber is always connected, the hardware can have multiple uses (it is used as a phone and as an internet access devise at the same time), it provides a wide range of prices depending on the speed and a wide range of service providers. However, its use is limited by varying speed, availability, download limits and the spe cial equipments that must be installed by the telecom company. Cable internet on the other hand uses other coaxial cables other than telephone cables such as the television conduits. This broadband method has the basic advantage of being inexpensive and higher availability.On the other hand, it has the disadvantage of congestion and security problems associated with sharing of the network. Moreover, it is more suitable for multiple computers in home use (Steve Internet Guide, 2010). Satellite internet consists of a mini satellite disc mounted by a service provider. This comment shows that Jordan didnt need to be married or codependent on someone because if she needed that she would have just married some wealthy man to just to be a wife. She is different than other women of her time, she is a trailblazer for a new era of independent women that dont have the overwhelming feeling that the end goal in life is to marry a rich man and play house wife their entire lives. An example of Jordan being an athlete is At her first big Golf tournament there was a row that nearly reached the newspapers a suggestion that she had moved her ball from a bad lie in the semi-final round.[pg 57] Nick specially remembers this story while thinking about who Jordan was as an athlete and a person. In the early 1900s women began to choose being professional athletes like, Margaret Abott who in 1900 was the first woman to win a Gold metal. This began a key idea in later feminist movements that women didnt have to be teachers or librarians they could be anything including athletes. Jordan baker overall is a groundbreaking and new kind a women we see in the 1920s. Myrtle Wilson is very different from Jordan and Daisy because she is not only lower class but she uses men intentionally of rather money and she is described in a sensual way. An example of her use of men for money is when myrtle says I married him because I thought he was a gentleman. I thought he knew something about breeding, but he wasnt fit to lick my shoe. [pg 34] Myrtle originally only marries her husband under the assumption that he is extremely wealthy and she later realizes that he was poor. Myrtle saying he wasnt fit to lick my shoe shows that she finds out he is beneath her in society and possibly lead her to believe that there was more money. Myrtle is like many women in the 1920s who are forced to move up the social latter by marrying a wealthy man and unfortunate for myrtle she married the wrong man. An example of myrtles sensual features is when she is hit by the car and it says her left breast was winging loose like a flap and there was no need to listen for a heart beat[pg 137] Myrtles main feature was her sexuality as when she died it was figuratively, and literally, ripped away from her taking her life away. She could have been killed in anyway but she was killed in a way that took away the one thing that was her fault and caused her to cheat with Tom. You could even say that Myrtles sexuality being ripped from her in the end was a way for God to punish her as he has seen all the lying and cheating she has done behind her husbands back. Myrtle Wilson has many attributes that contribute to her character but in the end her greed for wealth and sensualness that end up killing her. Myrtle, Jordan, and Daisy are all very different characters in nature and personalities but they have many things in common. One thing they have in common is the idea that they all represent new ideas of what women in the 1920s began to change into. Also all three women at some point are involved with a man that doesnt stay in their life. Daisy was involved with Gatsby, Jordan with Nick, and Myrtle with Tom. Finally all three women are extremely careless and are willing to lie not only to themselves but too others in order to maintain their relationship and wealth status in the book. Even though the gender roles began to change in the 1920s women still cheated and lied their way out of many situations.
